Behold the bane of my existence. They’re gluten-free, but remain the villain: Carbs.
The battleground: My Kitchen.
I’ve spent the past two years trying to figure out why my body hurts so much. I’m going to start sharing things that I’ve found to help a bit. Mainly recipes. We’ll see how I do for photos.
The wounds of battle are swelling, joint pain, muscle pain, stiffness, carpal tunnel syndrome, IBS, brain fog, chest pain, asthma, and probably a few more I forgot. Oh, yeah: depression.
So far, the only pharma-based relief I get comes from my anti-depressant and plaquenil. Of course NSAIDs help, but not 6x a day for years on end, please. (The link between pain and depression is significant.)
Two rheumotologists, a naturopath and a nutritionist later (not to mention my NP and an MD, a neurologist and an orthopedist), the only thing I know for sure is that carbs are my nemesis. And alcohol behaves like a carb in my body (well of course it does, silly…).
Candida, Leaky Gut, Lupus (or not), Arthritis, Costochondritis (or is it Pleurisy? Docs disagree…) a two-page list of food allergies/sensitivities… along with a parasite, pre-Diabetes and a few other less attention-grabbing ailments add up to mornings when it’s hard to get out of bed and power through the low-grade fever, joint pain and extra 3 pounds of inflammo water-weight. And off to work.
Coming up soon: recipes for kale chips, super-crunchy crackers, cookies, and waffles (YES, waffles!!!). They work wonders when my cravings cooperate. The flavors may not be what you’re accustomed to, but I highly recommend them as worth a try.
Wish me luck with remembering to take photos…
Until next time, recommended purchases: A mini waffle iron and Monk Fruit sweetener (not the little paper packets – I get a bag of Lakanto Monk Fruit + Erythritol sweetener at natural grocers or from Amazon). A pizzelle iron is a bonus too.
