The Oasis Counseling Center for Women and Children is a local (Birmingham, AL, US) non-profit mental health center. Every year they hold a fundraiser, and Alabama Art Supply provides the canvases free to artists who contribute.
This painting will be my contribution tomorrow.
This cause is very close to my heart, and I’m delighted this Center exists here in Birmingham.
The idea for the painting popped into my head almost complete, so painting it was simply a matter of following the blueprint. I love it when my brain & mind do this!
I assume (sometimes incorrectly) that folks “get” my meaning when I create a piece like this… But I’d love it if you’d comment and tell me what you think.
Thoughts about it, whirling through my head:
- How despair and lack of support or connection can feel like the Universe’s burden rests on one’s shoulders.
- How a parent (not just mothers and/or women) will sometimes bear that weight, to protect their child.
- How one’s inner light can illuminate the world of a child – or really, anyone that we care for and love.
- That this connection transcends gender, race, age, time, culture, and ethnicity.
- That despite the trials life may throw at us, with strength, resilience, and effort, we can reach and enjoy some level of inner peace.
- Even when the world seems to be falling apart and the universe imploding on us, this inner strength can shield even the most fragile of our dreams.
